From a $300 Sample to $3 Million in Annual Purchases: How One Office Furniture Dealer Grew with Xusheng
A Middle East furniture dealer grew from a $300 sample order into a long-term Xusheng partner, expanding from retail furniture sales to complete office projects and reaching around $3 million in annual purchases.

From a $300 Sample Order to $3 Million in Annual Purchases: How One Furniture Dealer Built a System Office Furniture Business with Xusheng
A little over a decade ago, a furniture dealer in the Middle East came to us with a simple request: he wanted to test one office desk.
He was still relatively new to the furniture business at the time and was preparing products for his store. Before committing to a larger order, he wanted to see for himself what Xusheng could actually deliver.
So he started small.
One sample. Approximately US$300.
By 2023–2024, his annual purchases from Xusheng had grown to approximately US$3 million.
But the number itself is not the most interesting part of this story.
What matters more is what happened between those two points: how a new dealer tested a supplier, built his first office furniture range, completed his first full office project, expanded from individual furniture sales into project business, developed his own sales team and eventually built a long-term manufacturing partnership that continues today.
For us, this story is also a reminder that a sample order is rarely just about a sample.
Sometimes, it is the beginning of an entirely different way of doing business.

2015: He Wasn't Looking for a Long-Term Partnership Yet. He Just Wanted to Test the Product.
The client first came to us through an enquiry on another sourcing platform.
After learning more about our products, he wanted to test the actual quality before making a larger commitment. At that stage, his sample budget was limited and he needed the product quickly.
We recommended a straightforward option from our ONLY Series, the CF-LY1206A office desk.
It made sense for his situation. The price was accessible for a first test, the design was simple and contemporary, and it gave him a practical way to evaluate our manufacturing quality without taking a large purchasing risk.
The desk itself was simple, but his requirements were not entirely standard.
He wanted a customised colour and a specific desktop cable box.
We prepared three design options and sent him physical colour samples before materials were confirmed for production. The process also gave him a chance to evaluate something beyond the furniture itself: how quickly we responded, how we handled customisation and whether communication remained clear when details changed.
At the same time, he could see that Xusheng was not supplying only a few isolated desk models. We already had a broader system covering desks, workstations, meeting furniture, reception furniture and storage.
That would become much more important later.
Dealer Business Insight
For a new dealer, a sample should not only answer:
“Is this desk good enough?”
It should also help answer:
“If this product sells, can this supplier support what comes next?”
The Sample Arrived. He Opened It Immediately.
When the sample reached him, he did not leave it packed in the warehouse.
He opened the carton and assembled the desk almost immediately.
At that time, he needed furniture to support the opening of his store, so the sample was part of a real purchasing decision. He checked the assembly process, made basic balance and load-bearing checks, and looked closely at the finish, colour, design and overall construction.
The assembly went smoothly.
The product quality met his expectations. The price was acceptable. He was also satisfied with the communication throughout the process.
But a successful sample did not mean he was ready to trust every future order.
His next concern was a very reasonable one:
Would the quality of the bulk order remain consistent with the sample?
That is where the second stage of trust began.
After evaluating the sample internally, the client held a meeting with his team. About one week after that internal assessment, he decided to move ahead with his first commercial order.
From One Desk to 276 Pieces
The client initially told us something very simple:
“I need a batch of furniture to open my store.”
We could have responded by selling him more desks.
Instead, we suggested that he think about the store as a complete office furniture business from the beginning.
Xusheng has long focused on system office furniture because a coordinated range gives dealers more control over product consistency, purchasing costs, future replenishment and after-sales support.
For a new dealer, it also creates another advantage: the showroom can demonstrate much more than individual products.
So we recommended building a broader furniture mix rather than filling the store with unrelated desks.
The final quantities for each category were entirely the client's decision, based on his own budget and judgement. Our role was to help him understand which categories could work together as a complete range.
His first commercial purchase eventually grew to 276 pieces across a much broader system office furniture range, including workstations, manager and executive desks, meeting tables, filing cabinets, mobile pedestals, reception furniture and supporting products. The original order records also show the significant jump from a single sample to a broad system furniture purchase.
When the products arrived, he assembled the different categories and displayed them throughout the store.
Desks, workstations and tall and low filing cabinets formed an important part of the display, supported by reception, meeting and other furniture.
There was a reason for this.
The showroom needed to tell customers three things:
We sell office furniture.
We can supply different areas of an office.
And we have the product range to support an office project, not just a single desk.
That distinction would soon bring him his first major opportunity.

The First Sales Were Small — Then the System Started Working
The store did not suddenly become busy overnight.
At first, sales were relatively modest.
Customers came in and bought individual pieces: a filing cabinet, a mobile pedestal, a desk.
But something interesting started happening.
After using one product, some customers returned to ask about matching furniture from the same range.
A customer who had purchased storage might come back looking for a matching desk. Someone who had already experienced the quality of one product became more willing to look at other furniture in the same system.
Individual sales began creating opportunities for additional sales.
Then one of those earlier customers introduced the dealer to a project purchasing manager.
That introduction changed the direction of the business.
His First Complete Office Project: More Than 300 m², 40 Workstations and 236 Pieces of Furniture
The opportunity was for a medium-sized corporate office of more than 300 square metres.
The project included 40 employee workstations and 236 pieces of furniture across multiple areas, including the general staff workspace, supervisor offices, manager offices, meeting space, executive offices, a staff break area and reception.
For an experienced project dealer today, this might sound manageable.
For a relatively new furniture dealer at the time, it was a very different challenge.
His first store order had included many furniture categories, but only limited quantities of each. The stock was enough for display and retail sales; it was not enough to complete an entire corporate office.
So he brought the project requirements back to Xusheng.
This time, our conversation was no longer simply about how many desks he wanted to buy.
We worked with the actual project requirements and provided support including:
layout planning, product selection, size adjustments, customised workstation configurations, colour and material coordination, quantity take-offs, quotation and BOM preparation, 3D visualisation, installation drawings and container-loading planning.
Where standard products worked, we used them.
Where the space required adjustments, we adapted the furniture accordingly.
The dealer remained responsible for his local customer and the business relationship. Our role was to support the product and manufacturing side so that he could deliver what he had sold.
That model gave him a new way to think about growth.
Dealer Business Insight
Expanding from retail furniture into office projects does not necessarily mean a dealer has to build every capability internally from day one.
A dealer may be strongest at local sales, customer relationships and winning projects.
A capable manufacturing partner can support the product planning, customisation and production behind those projects.
For this client, that meant he could expand the type of business he accepted without first having to build a complete project-support operation of his own.

Then He Walked Into the Finished Office
After the project was installed, the dealer visited the completed office himself.
This became one of the defining moments in our relationship.
Until then, he had mostly seen the furniture as individual products in his store.
A desk was a desk.
A cabinet was a cabinet.
A workstation was another product available for sale.
Inside the completed office, he saw something different.
The desks, workstations, storage and furniture for different areas were no longer isolated products. They shared a consistent design language and worked together as one environment.
The office looked organised, clean and coherent.
More importantly, the furniture helped communicate something about the company occupying the space — its professionalism, culture and working atmosphere.
That was when the idea of a system office furniture business became much more tangible to him.
As he later explained to us, Xusheng helped him understand what system office furniture really meant and why selling a complete system could create opportunities that individual product sales could not.
His view was simple: with Xusheng supporting the product side, he could focus more confidently on developing his own business.
A Damaged Desktop Became Another Test of the Partnership
The first project was successful, but it was not completely problem-free.
During transportation, one desktop panel was damaged.
The dealer contacted us and asked how the issue could be handled.
We checked the original product and order information and, within approximately seven days, confirmed that we would provide a replacement panel free of charge.
The replacement was then shipped together with his next container order.
It was a relatively small after-sales case, but it mattered.
For a dealer, the real cost of a product problem is not limited to the replacement part.
He has his own customer waiting for an answer.
If the manufacturer cannot identify the original specification, match the product or provide a practical solution, the dealer carries that problem into his own customer relationship.
This is one reason product continuity matters in system furniture.
When a component needs replacing, the goal should not be to find something that is merely “close enough”. The dealer needs a solution that remains consistent with what was originally supplied.
For our client, this first after-sales experience gave him greater confidence that when a problem appeared, there was a manufacturing partner behind him that would help resolve it.
And importantly, the replacement travelled with his next order.
The relationship had already moved beyond the first project.
From Furniture Retailer to Office Project Business
The first office project proved that the model could work.
The client had already followed our earlier recommendation to sell system office furniture. Now he had seen what that system could do inside a real project.
So he began positioning his business more deliberately around both office furniture retail and complete office projects.
The logic was practical.
He did not need to invest immediately in every technical capability required for project furniture. At that stage, when he won a project, he could bring the requirements to a more experienced manufacturing partner for product planning and technical support.
That allowed him to concentrate on his local market while expanding the range of business he could accept.
Over time, repeat customers, referrals and new projects followed.
Retail sales continued to generate regular replenishment, while corporate projects created larger individual orders.
By 2018, the relationship had entered a much more mature stage, with purchasing reaching approximately ten containers per year across several system furniture ranges.
The growth was no longer coming from one channel.
Retail replenishment and office projects were working together.

By 2023–2024: Approximately $3 Million in Annual Purchases
By 2023–2024, the client's business had changed considerably from the small operation we first knew in 2015.
His company had expanded.
His local brand had become better known.
Repeat purchases and referrals had increased.
Corporate and government project opportunities had grown, including larger projects.
His sales channels had also expanded, while Xusheng continued adding products and systems that could respond to changing market demand.
By this stage, his purchasing from Xusheng had reached approximately 7,028 pieces per year, averaging around two containers per month, with annual purchases of approximately US$3 million.
The office furniture side of his business had also become increasingly important. According to the figures he shared with us, office furniture represented approximately 12–14% of total store sales around the beginning of the relationship, rising to around 19% by 2018, 31% by 2023 and 38% by 2024.
Those numbers matter to us more than the size of any individual order.
They show that office furniture gradually became a larger part of the dealer's own business.
The Relationship Changed as the Dealer Grew
One of the most important parts of this story is that the client does not work with Xusheng today in exactly the same way he did in 2015.
He shouldn't.
In the early years, he needed much more support with project planning, product selection, layouts, configurations and technical preparation.
Today, his business is more established. He has his own sales team and greater internal project capability.
Our role has evolved with him.
Xusheng now works primarily as one of his core system office furniture manufacturing partners, supporting areas such as product customisation, production, supply-chain continuity and after-sales service.
He also works with other specialist suppliers for categories such as office chairs and sofas.
That is an important distinction.
A long-term manufacturing partnership does not mean a dealer must buy everything from one factory.
It means knowing which supplier can reliably support each important part of the business.
For system office furniture, that relationship with Xusheng has now continued for more than a decade.

From Selling Our Furniture to Building His Own Brand
As the client's business matured, his requirements changed again.
It was no longer enough simply to purchase products.
He wanted the furniture to support his own brand in the local market.
Today, our support for his branded product offering includes logos on the products, branded cartons, shipping marks, product labels, installation instructions, dedicated colour and configuration options, and product renderings.
This development did not happen overnight.
The original cooperation records already show how the relationship gradually moved towards customised packaging and customer branding as his market presence increased.
He also shares feedback from his market with us. Most adjustments are practical rather than completely new product developments — for example, modifying accessories or configurations on existing Xusheng products to better suit his customers.
That is a more accurate description of how our relationship works today.
We are not trying to redesign an entirely new furniture range every time the market changes.
Often, the better solution is to keep a proven product platform and make sensible adjustments around it.
Why Has the Partnership Lasted for More Than a Decade?
Looking back, we believe there are three reasons.
First, the product system kept developing.
The client did not remain limited to the same small range he saw in 2015. As his market changed, our system furniture offering continued to expand.
Second, our support changed with his business.
When he was new, he needed help moving from individual furniture sales into project work.
Later, he needed support for larger orders and more complex projects.
Today, he needs a dependable manufacturing base for system furniture, customisation, supply and his own branded products.
Third, the relationship did not end when the container left the factory.
Production follow-up, product identification, packaging, after-sales support and later product maintenance all became part of the service behind his business. Our earlier cooperation records also document measures such as product identification on packaging, accessory marking, dedicated order follow-up and photo and video production updates.
The requirements changed.
The role changed.
But the partnership remained.

What Can Other Office Furniture Dealers Take from This Story?
We do not share this story to suggest that every US$300 sample will become US$3 million in annual purchases.
That would miss the point.
The first sample did not guarantee anything.
It simply gave a new dealer a low-risk way to answer the first question:
Can I trust the product and the people supplying it?
The 276-piece order answered another question:
Can this manufacturer support more than one product?
The first 300+ m² office project answered another:
Can this product system work when I move beyond retail and start selling complete office solutions?
The after-sales case answered another:
When something goes wrong, will the manufacturer still be there?
And more than a decade of replenishment, projects, product adjustments and branded supply answered the biggest question:
Can this manufacturing relationship continue to support my business as it grows?
That is ultimately what we believe a furniture system should do.
It should not only help a dealer make today's sale.
It should give him something he can continue to sell, replenish, expand, customise and support tomorrow.
Start with a Sample. Evaluate the System Behind It.
If you are a new office furniture dealer, you do not necessarily need to begin with a full container.
If you already sell office furniture but are sourcing unrelated products from several factories, it may be worth looking beyond the price of the next desk and asking whether those products can work together as a long-term range.
And if you are an established importer looking for a manufacturing partner, the same principle still applies:
Test the product, but also test the system behind the product.
Can the supplier maintain quality?
Can the range grow?
Can products be replenished?
Can the manufacturer support customisation and projects?
Can after-sales issues be resolved without disrupting your relationship with your own customers?
Our relationship with this dealer began in 2015 with one office desk worth approximately US$300.
It continues today, more than a decade later.
The biggest change was not simply the size of his orders.
It was the kind of business those orders allowed him to build.
